Priorities and Balance

Last Monday I said I would let you know how I was doing with my habits. Well, I was on a roll, I was at the gym, taking vitamins, eating healthy, thinking positive thoughts, but then, suddenly, life got crazy.

To sum it up, I had so much homework, I also had a party that we planned to host since the beginning of October, I lost my year-old phone in the woods at 10 pm in a storm, work got crazy, and my windshield was cracked. Due to all of this sudden stress, I haven’t actually slept through the night since Thursday. I’m exhausted. I forgot most of those habits I was trying to create because I felt like my priorities had to change momentarily for my mental health and for things that just seemed more important.

So, I haven’t been to the gym, I forgot to take my antidepressants (that was just me being lazy), but I have been positive. My phone was lost but thankfully it was backed up, my windshield got cracked but nothing good would’ve come from me getting mad. A rock hit it and that’s no ones fault. I felt like the most important thing I could do during this stressful weekend was to stay positive. I find that when I express my stress it creates more stress.

I had to prioritize sleep for my well being over the gym this morning, yesterday we ate Taco Bell for dinner, and tonight probably won’t be the healthiest either. Sometimes life gets crazy and I can’t tell if it’s testing how dedicated I am to staying healthy or if it’s testing how well I can handle not working out. When I used to not work out I would beat myself up, this past weekend, I just felt like I was okay. I had different things going on and I will be back to the gym. It wasn’t even a thought.

I’m still struggling to understand when I should push myself more and when I’m pushing myself too hard.

I feel like instead of making a new list of habits, we can all use a little motivation to continue with them and push through what life throws us.

First of all, I want to give you guys some pages and people I follow for motivation:

I won’t give you a list of habits, but instead I want to tell you things I do to take care of myself daily and weekly.

  1. I have a diffuser. They smell good, they’re good to have near your bed for this dry winter air, and the essential oils have awesome benefits.
  2. I found these lavender bath salts on Amazon that were pretty cheap. When I get out of the tub, I’m so relaxed and tired. It’s the perfect way to end a stressful day.
  3. I try to dedicate a day to doing a hair and face mask. Not an entire day, but maybe when I get home from the gym or before I go to bed. Sometimes those little things, like knowing I’ll have super soft hair from my hair mask, makes me feel a little better the next day.
  4. I clean my face with oil. I actually hated this at first, but now I love it. I have difficult skin so I haven’t had amazing results, but that could be because my eating  habits aren’t on point or I don’t drink enough water, ever. But oil makes my face feel way less greasy, and way more hydrated. It also only has to be done once a day.
  5. This may seem a little strange, but I love all natural things. So, cleaner, detergent, etc. It makes me feel like I’m making a little bit of a difference. Every little bit helps. All natural products get pricey so I definitely have to start small, but it makes me so happy.

I probably do a lot of things, but today I’m struggling to think. I’m overwhelmed, tired, and hangry. I got so excited to make a blog post and completely blanked when I went to type.

But I hope I inspired you to take this week and run with it.

You can make a difference. There are a ton of food drives going on right now, too! That’s always something that makes me feel good to do. It also takes very little time.

Have the best week, and if it gets tough, just laugh through it and prove to the universe that you can do it!

Talk soon,
